The words of God |
are vaster than the universe
and powerful enough to create that universe! What then could destroy the
words of God?
By: David A.
Sargent
The most important
thing in the world that we have been intrusted with is the words of God.
Some claim that the original manuscripts have some special place, or some
special meaning that we don't have in any translation, and therefore lump
all translations in the same pile. The appeal to the original manuscripts
seems almost to be a viable appeal, until we consider the fact that the original
manuscripts don't exist! This glaring fact doesn't mean anything to the people
that promote this concept. They then appeal to the copies of copies and claim
that some compilation of these copies are close to the originals, in their
opinion. Question: What original did they compair the copies to, to come
up with their conclusions? And where do they find this kind of talk in the
Bible? Who was it anyway in the Bible that questioned what God said? (see
Genesis 3:1)
If what I read in my Bible is true, and that is the way I take it, then the
words of God are incorruptible! That statement is found in 1 Peter 1:23,
which says: "Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible,
by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever." That being the case,
and is where the logic of faith should take the first step in this issue,
we never should assume that there isn't the perfect words of God. We
CAN find them!
Believing what God says is the first thing a person has to do in order to
be saved, you have to do what God says in His way according to Romans 10:9-10,
which says, "That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and
shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou
shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and
with the mouth confession is made unto salvation." But if you don't believe
the words are true, or if you believe they are only mans words, then the
words will not work in you according to 1 Thessalonians 2:13, which says:
"For this cause also thank we God without ceasing, because, when ye received
the word of God which ye heard of us, ye received it not as the word of men,
but as it is in truth, the word of God, which effectually worketh also in
you that believe."
The problem is that where faith breaks down and humanism starts is right
here on the issue of what God said, or that God said anything at all. The
Bible assumes that God not only said words, but that these words are and
can be found. Examine again the passage in 1 Peter 23, and read on to verse
25, the whole passage reads this way, "Being born again, not of corruptible
seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth
for ever. For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower
of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away: But the
word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel
is preached unto you." The Bible is claiming to be this very incorruptible
word of God! And in 1 John, it claimes to be the very record, look at 1 John
5:9-13, which reads, "If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God
is greater: for this is the witness of God which he hath testified of his
Son. He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he
that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the
record that God gave of his Son. And this is the record, that God hath given
to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. He that hath the Son hath
life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life. These things have
I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may
know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the
Son of God." There is a written record of the word of God. The Bible takes
that position contrary to anyones opinion about it.
The phrase "word of God" doesn't mean that all the words in the Bible were
spoken by God, but that they are the words that God wanted us to have. It
is very obvious that the words in Isaiah 14:12-14, are in 3rd person, and
were said by the prophet. The prophet was speaking by the power of God and
even though the actual words were the devils words, God wanted us to know
are advasary. Of course if you have a New Interntional Version these words
are from Jesus Christ. Instead of Lucifer, they put in the title of Jesus
Christ, "morning star" which the word Lucifer doesn't mean. See Revelation
22:16 where Jesus calls himself the morning star.
There is only one way the devil could destroy the incruptible words of God!
That way is to make a counterfeit!

We who are born again are in a war according to Ephesians 6:10-18, "Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;" our warfare is not against flesh, but against the evil spirits that are behind the evil doers. 2 Corinthians 10:2-5, "But I beseech you, that I may not be bold when I am present with that confidence, wherewith I think to be bold against some, which think of us as if we walked according to the flesh. For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;" we also war against our own fleshly lusts according to 1 Peter 2:11, "Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul;" we are told to fight the good fight of faith, 1 Timothy 6:12, "Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses." We are called soldiers, according to 2 Timothy 2:3-5, "Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier. And if a man also strive for masteries, yet is he not crowned, except he strive lawfully." The Bible is our guide, Psalms 119:105, "Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path." we should know it when we are caught in the heat of the battle, Psalms 119:11, "Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee." We should live as we have received the Lord: by faith, Colossians 2:6-7, "As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him: Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving." And always beware of the enemy, Colossians 2:8-10, "Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ. For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily. And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power:" and 2 Corinthians 2:11, 17, "Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.... For we are not as many, which corrupt the word of God: but as of sincerity, but as of God, in the sight of God speak we in Christ." Eve was deceived by the tactics of the devil of doubting what God said and so we are warned not to be, 2 Corinthians 11:3-4 & 13-15, "But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtlety, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ. For if he that cometh preacheth another Jesus, whom we have not preached, or if ye receive another spirit, which ye have not received, or another gospel, which ye have not accepted, ye might well bear with him... For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ. And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works." Back to "In This Issue"
